Vedic synastry is the comparison of two birth charts (kundlis) using the sidereal zodiac system from Jyotish, the traditional Hindu system of astrology. Unlike Western astrology which uses the tropical zodiac, Vedic synastry accounts for the precession of equinoxes and uses the actual positions of the stars. It analyzes how two people's planetary placements interact across houses, signs, and nakshatras (lunar mansions) to reveal relationship dynamics.

Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac (based on seasons), while Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac (based on actual star positions) — there's roughly a 24° difference. Vedic synastry also includes unique systems like Ashta Kuta (8-fold compatibility scoring), Navamsha (D9) chart analysis for marriage potential, nakshatra-based analysis, and dosha assessment (Mangal, Nadi, Bhakut). Our tool combines all of these for a more comprehensive analysis.

Exact birth time gives the most accurate results because it determines your Ascendant (Lagna) and house placements. However, Cosmic Chemistry works without it — we analyze Moon sign, nakshatra, and planetary aspects which only require your birth date and location. Results without birth time will show a confidence indicator so you know which factors could not be calculated.

Ashta Kuta is a traditional 8-fold compatibility system that scores a couple out of 36 points across eight factors: Varna (spiritual compatibility), Vasya (mutual attraction), Tara (health/wellbeing), Yoni (physical compatibility), Graha Maitri (mental connection), Gana (temperament), Bhakut (emotional bond), and Nadi (constitutional compatibility). Traditionally, 18+ out of 36 is considered favorable. We incorporate all 8 factors into our modern dimensional scoring.

Vedic compatibility analysis is a time-tested system used for centuries across South Asia. Our tool calculates 42 distinct factors using the Swiss Ephemeris for astronomical precision, applying classical rules from texts like Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. While no compatibility system can predict relationship outcomes with certainty, Vedic synastry provides deep insight into the energetic dynamics between two people — strengths to lean into and challenges to navigate consciously.

While we include the full Ashta Kuta system used in marriage matching, we also analyze house overlays, planetary aspects, Navamsha compatibility, and dosha conditions — totaling 42 factors across 6 relationship dimensions. This gives you a much richer picture than a simple Guna Milan score, applicable to any relationship — not just marriage.
